FAQs

  • Before your first session:

Please select the most convenient appointment time for your first session via the ‘Book a Session’ page. This will likely also be your regular weekly appointment if you decide to continue therapy with us. Once we receive your appointment request we will contact you to confirm your appointment.

    At your first session:

You can begin to explore your issue(s) and your therapist will explain our policies, their ways of working and how they might help. Likewise, you (as the client) will need to decide if you would like to work with the therapist.

    After your first session:

Your therapist will share with you:

    • Counselling agreement

    • Contact details form

You can then sign and return the agreement and contact details form along with your payment to the account details provided and at the rate agreed. We will contact you on receipt of your payment and confirm the start date for your counselling.

  • Perhaps therapy is something you know that other people do but you are wondering if it might be right for you too.

These is a common question people have before they seek help from a professional.

Therapy provides a confidential and safe space for people to talk about their life, relationships, thoughts, actions and feelings with someone who is interested in understanding and helping them to better understand themselves.

Sometimes clients may look to the therapist to find answers or solutions to their concerns. Our role is not to provide answers, give direct advice or to tell clients what to do. The therapeutic relationship can, however, enable clients to find their own way through their present struggles.

  • At some point in our lives we all experience feelings of overwhelm or distress. Sometimes there is a general feeling of dissatisfaction that over time can begin to impact our daily lives. You may have been prescribed some medication for what you’re experiencing. Sometimes a combination of medication and therapy can work well together.

Being in a therapeutic relationship can help you to gain clarity on an issue. It can also help you to understand why you may be feeling certain things or behaving in certain ways in order to help you to make better informed choices. Longer term therapy can enable you to untangle complex personal issues, or embark on a journey of self-development.

You may seek therapy as a result of a crisis, or you may be encouraged to seek therapy by family members, friends or colleagues.

  • If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of the following three questions then it is likely that therapy may be beneficial for you:

    1) Am I curious about myself and why I feel the way I do or why I keep reacting or behaving in certain ways?

    2) Does the thought of talking to someone who is interested in listening to me and not judging me sound appealing?

    3) Am I feeling something I’ve felt before and thought I’d moved on from or had hoped to have moved on from by now?

  • Clients can often hold the belief that what they are struggling with is “not a big deal.” They may push the discomfort deeper within themselves or try to avoid it all together but it can manifest in other ways if left unprocessed.

Sometimes seemingly ‘minor’ issues can trouble us to the extent that we do not feel able to go about our day to day lives, we can feel low, angry, anxious, suspicious or miserable.

No matter what you are going through, having a professional offer you a safe space in which you can explore it can support you in making the right decisions for yourself, but not by yourself.

  • The energy we bring is attentive, tender, and grounding. The space we provide aims to make you feel comfortable and safe, so that we can explore your emotional discomfort more easily.

We work relationally and invite you to be honest and open without expecting judgement from us. We want you to feel like you always know where you stand and what the boundaries are.

If you have any feedback about our approach or how you are experiencing us, we welcome it so that we can continue to be aware of ourselves and the impact we are having on others. This helps us to understand you better as well as gives us an opportunity to adjust our communication and approach where helpful.

This is important to make sure that you end safely and have time to reflect on the work that has taken place together with your therapist.

  • It is really important to choose a service that feels right to you as an individual. Some reasons why our clients choose us are listed below:

    • We operate on an open-ended framework for counselling sessions, meaning you have a say in how many sessions you have

    • Our training has been approved and accredited by Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB)

    • We offer therapy face to face, over the telephone and online which means if our physical therapy room is too far for you, you can still get the help you need in a way that is convenient to you.

    • We are flexible with cancellations and and rescheduling of appointments within reasonable and clear boundaries discussed with you from the outset.

    • Our clients wellbeing is at the heart of what we do. Because of this we work relationally, welcoming and offering feedback to encourage a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

The session lasts fifty minutes and after having met and spent some time with your therapist you can decide whether or not you would like to book more sessions.
